Cross-Cultural Internship Program – Following the India Route 2009

Every year our 5.000 employees publish 1.500 professional journals and more than 5.000 new books. Approximately 35% of our employees are located in India.

Crest Premedia Solutions, part of the Springer Group, is located in Pune (India) and provides pre-media services such as typesetting of books, journals and magazines, as well as design and pre-printing solutions for the publishing sector. Crest offers these services for print and online products in German, Dutch and English language.

With our cross-cultural internship program, Springer wants to give a select group of open-minded graduates the opportunity to gain fascinating insights into India's business life and its cultural traditions. We are keen to promote intercultural understanding by integrating recent graduates in practical work as well as through the included cultural elements and the participation in a social development project.

Completed degree in either print technologies, media design/science, graphic design or humanities e.g. Dutch/German studies

Job duties:
During your work placement you will work either in the proof reading, copy-editing, graphics, pre-editing, pagination or marketing service department and support our staff in various pre-media projects. You will get to know the tasks and work-flows of a production company in the publishing sector by performing one or more of the following tasks:

• Text processing (in particular proof reading and copy-editing in Dutch/German)
• Assisting graphic operators in re-drawing and re-labelling, checking final graphics for correctness in text and style
• Checking documents layout and style - as per specifications
• Translation from Dutch/German into English and vice versa
• Assisting the production team with documentations for Dutch/German projects
• Data capture and validation
• Production related communication and follow up with counter-parts in Germany and Holland

Job requirements:
• Dutch or German native speaker and excellent command of English, further language skills are definitely a plus
• Preferably work experience in publishing environment
• Familiar with MS Office applications
• Ideally, experience in working with image-editing programmes like Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator or Flash
• Intercultural and interpersonal skills, acquired through (study or work) experience abroad
• Strong interest in living and working in India
• Ability to easily adapt and integrate to changing (work-)environments
• Initiative, above-average commitment and ability to cope with stress

Compensation: 250 EUR/month (plus free accommodation and travel expenses)
Duration: 6 months
Interns: 6 – 8
